Why Massage During Pregnancy?

Massage during pregnancy not only makes a woman feel pampered, but offers undeniable physical benefits as well. Massage can relieve fatigue, help in relaxation, enhance sleep and calm an active baby. Massage is not recommended until after completing your first trimester.

Second Trimester
-Alleviate backaches
-Reduce fatigue
-Relieve leg cramps

Third Trimester
-Reduce edema
-Enhance sleep
-Relieve your aches and pains

During the 2nd and 3rd trimester of the pregnancy, massage can stimulate blood flow, which may assist in the prevention of anemia. An increase in muscle tone and flexibility will occur, aiding in alleviating leg cramps and muscle spasms.

While receiving pregnancy massage, you lay on your sides to give the therapist access to your back. Your body will be supported with a body pillow and your choice of one or two pillows will be placed under your head. You will be properly draped at all times while the therapist is working, except for the area being massaged. Always let the massage therapist know if you are experiencing any pain or problems should they occur.

Women with normal, low risk pregnancies can benefit greatly from massage by a trained pregnancy massage therapist. However, women in high-risk pregnancies should consult with their doctor or midwife before beginning a massage therapy program. We will mail you a doctors permission slip should you need one.
